Bright Black pictures is a boutique post production facility specialising in long form scripted television and film content. Founded in 2023 by  post creative director/producer, Johan ‘Ula’ Oelsen  who’s known for his creative solutions to post production, and has worked on multiple award winning shows over the last 20 years. Notably – Multichoices’ “The Wild”; “Donkerland”; “Bloedbroers”; “The Republic”; “Love, Law, Betrayal”; and the IEmmy nominated “isThunzi” and “The River”. Bright Black recently finished a landmark production of 52 hour drama episodes for the critically acclaimed “Summertide” for the year 2024. Lair – Botswana being the latest addition the glittering line up.

“Lair Botswana is exactly the kind of production we at Bright Black Pictures thrive on” say Ula. “The nature of the production meant we had tight deadlines but the dedicated team really rose to the occasion and produced work of international quality. It was a privilege for the team to embrace some tof he fresh face students from the Botswana team and we are very proud to be a part of the African showcase, to show not only the potential of Botswana but also the  quality of Southern African television and film production.”

Ula has been nominated for over 25 Saftas and won 6. In 2023 he became a member of the prestigious American Cinematic Editors International partner program (A.C.E) and is a acronym holder for SAGE.
