Founded in 2023 by award-winning post creative director Johan ‘Ula’ Oelsen, the company has contributed to acclaimed shows such as The Wild, Donkerland, Bloedbroers, The Republic, Love, Law, Betrayal, and the iEmmy-nominated Is’Thunzi and The River. In 2024, BrightBlack completed 52 episodes of the critically acclaimed Summertide, with Lair – Botswana as their latest project.
“Lair Botswana is the kind of challenge we excel at,” says Ula. “Despite tight deadlines, our team delivered international-quality work. It was an honour to work with emerging talent from Botswana and help showcase the region’s creative potential.”
Ula has earned over 25 SAFTA nominations and six wins. In 2023, he joined the A.C.E. International Partner Program and is a SAGE acronym holder.
